Environment Friendly Practices:

Implementing sustainability in its core business operations has always been the primary goal of Thatta Cement. By blending this goal in its strategic practices, the company has been able to reduce its footprint on environment. TCCL is committed to reduce greenhouse gases by adopting modern techniques and carbon-less generation which includes WHR from kiln gases and solar power.

Greenfield Power Generation – Waste Heat Recovery:

Heat is produced/emitted  as a result of any industrial process. If not used effectively, waste heat is released into the atmosphere. The Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) plant at TCCL uses residual heat without any fuel consumption, and reduces the temperature of the exhaust gas; thus adding a positive effect to the environment.

Thatta Cement has a Waste Heat Recovery mechanism with a capacity of 4.0 MW which is utilized for Plant Operation. The company has significantly reduced its cost by co-generating electricity from waste heat. The WHR unit does not require any externally fed fuel to operate, instead it uses the heat exhausted out from the system.

The design of this plant is based on the idea of accumulating all the waste heat from the pyro process system. The heat so accumulated is then used to generate steam from boilers that ultimately runs turbine engine. This effectively makes us save electricity!

Solar Power Project:

Thatta Cement Company Limited (TCCL) has already installed a Solar Power Project of about 1.5MW, further extension of 3.0MW is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of year 2023.

Thatta Cement Company Limited has always ensured the introduction and adoption of the latest technologies in line with its vision of promoting sustainable business practices. This amelioration will not only increase the efficiency of our plant but will also assist to pare down carbon emissions.

Reduction in CO2 Emissions:

For the last five years, Thatta Cement Company Limited (TCCL) is in process of continual improvement for reduction of fuel consumption, reduction in specific power consumption and power generation through Green Field Power Resources like waste heat recovery (WHR) and electricity generation from solar energy.

The successful implementation of these projects has enabled Thatta Cement to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 17,100 metric tons per annum. The emission of CO2 is significantly reduced in atmosphere.

The company is also active in other alternative fuel projects to achieve environmental sustainability: dry sludge and rice husk are worth to mention. Thatta Cement takes pride for transformation of fossil fuel energy into an alternative energy structure. It highlights the priorities of Thatta Cement for protection of ecosystem.

Green Initiatives by Thatta Cement:

At the time of TCCL inception in 1982, its Plant’s surroundings were barren. TCCL management reserved huge portion of land for planting trees since beginning for making this area green. More than 20% (out of 243 acres) of current area is covered with trees which includes mango (many varieties), cheeko, jamun, palm and coconut trees, neem, gono, poplar, safeda, peepal trees mainly. Huge number of migratory birds stay and pass from our area which is greener than before and has huge water reservoir all the year due to presence of TCCL.

TCCL yearly spend significant yearly budget for maintaining and enhancing green area.
