Company Profile
Thatta Cement Company Limited was incorporated in 1980 as a public limited company. It was a wholly owned
subsidiary of the State Cement Corporation of Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited. The manufacturing facility was
commissioned in 1982. The plant is based on dry process technology, had a total installed capacity of
1,000 tons per day of clinker. The plant was supplied by M/s. Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan. In the year
2004, Government of Pakistan divested its shareholding from the company through Privatization Commission.
The Company obtained listing on the Karachi Stock Exchange Limited (Currently “Pakistan Stock Exchange
Limited”) as a public limited company in the year 2008. Shares of Thatta Cement Company Limited are quoted
on Pakistan Stock Exchange. The symbol of the Company assigned by Pakistan Stock Exchange (www.psx.com.pk)
is "THCCL".
Location
The plant is located 115 km North East of Karachi at Ghulamullah Road, Makli, District Thatta. The facility
is spread over 233 acres of freehold land consisting of factory area, workers’ colony, officers’ colony,
commercial buildings and water reservoirs. Finest quality raw material deposits are available close to the
plant. These limestone and clay reserves are sufficient for about 100 years. In this respect, TCCL has the
mining rights for extracting limestone from 2,364 acres, shale/clay from 1,121 acres and silica sand from
1,239 acres of land, respectively. The Company has further acquired mining rights of limestone for a further
area of 1,240.02 acres in December 2010.
Initiatives
Subsequent to the privatization, the management embarked on a number of
initiatives to improve performance and efficiency of the unit. These include:
- Induction of competent and experienced management personnel and
skilled workforce
- Capacity expansion by 50% (i.e. from 1,000tpd to 1,500tpd) of
clinker in 2005. Design and equipment supplied by LV Technology, Thailand
- Refurbishment of 35 tons/hour cement grinding mill which was not
operational since its erection for almost two decades
- Securing ISO 9001:2015 certification
- Installation of 24 tons/hr coal grinding mill
- Establishment and installation of a modern, computerized state of
the art operations control system
- To support the management in imparting their role of decision
making, Enterprise Resource Planning System has been implemented to achieve efficiencies through
process automations, enhanced collaborations among departments, business insights and better control
of business activities
- Conversion of the Plant from furnace oil firing to multi fuel firing
system (coal, gas and furnace oil)
- Keeping in view the environmental aspects, Thatta Cement installed
bag house of 06 chambers in 2005 and enhance 02 more chambers in September 2012, resulting no less
than 50mg/Nm3 dust emission from its main stack
- Keeping in view the aspects of energy crises in country, Thatta
Cement installed its own power generation project (Thatta Power Private Limited) having capacity of
23.1 MW (3.3MW x 7 generators) with technical assistance from Orient Energy System Private Limited
which has been taken in operation successfully in December, 2012. Thatta Power Private Limited is
not only fulfilling the requirement of electricity for Thatta Cement Plant but also supplying 13MW
electricity to Hyderabad Electric Supply Corporation (HESCO)
- Second Capacity expansion at Plant from 1,500tpd to 1,850tpd of
clinker was carried out in July 2015 by installation of inline pre-calciner, energy efficient SF
cross bar clinker cooler and electrostatic precipitator for cooler which resulted in savings of
specific heat consumption from 920kcal/kg to 830kcal/kg of clinker. The design and equipment of this
expansion was supplied by world renowned cement equipment supplier FLS
- Keeping in view the future capacity enhancement of Plant to 3000tpd,
Thatta Cement has installed a CF silo In July 2018. This CF silo has improve the homogenization of
Raw Meal in the silo which resulted in consistent quality of clinker and cement.
- Thatta Cement Company has also installed a Waste Heat Recovery (WHR)
Power Plant having capacity of 5MW by installing boilers at kiln preheater, clinker cooler and seven
gas engines of Thatta Power Plant to generate steam by utilizing waste heat of the mentioned
equipment for power generation. This plant is also environmental friendly as it reduces emission of
greenhouse gasses to atmosphere. The WHR Plant is in operation since November, 2019
